讲座题目:Size- and Shape-controlled Liquid Phase Synthesis of Inorganic Nanoparticles and Application to Organic-inorganic Hybrid Liquid-crystalline Materials

讲座时间:2015年9月24日下午4点30分

讲座地点:材料学院 205 会议室

讲座人:Professor Kiyoshi Kanie

讲座内容:

Organic-inorganic hybrid liquid crystals (LC) that we have developed are nanoparticle-based functional materials showing thermotropic LC behavior and self-organization property. For example, hybridization of organic amino-containing LCs with monodisperse needle-like TiO2 nanoparticles (NPs) lead to the introduction of thermotropic liquid-crystallinity. We also succeeded in introducing thermotropic liquid crystallinity into fine monodisperse a-Fe2O3 NPs. Recently, we have also developed LC organic-inorganic hybrid dendrimers, where the dendrimer has a spherical gold NP at its core. Dense surface modification of spherical gold NPs with LC dendron was found to result in a hybrid exhibiting a thermotropic LC phase with a simple cubic structure. Furthermore, we focus on imparting such ability to self-organize onto monodisperse quantum dots (QDs) NPs. As a result, dendron-modified QDs were obtained, displaying ordered superlattices. Such structures were found to exhibit unusual photoluminescence behaviour. The details will be discussed in the seminar.

讲座人介绍:

Kiyoshi Kanie obtained his Masters degree in Engineering at Tokyo Institute of Technology and his PhD from Kyoto University. He joined the Institute of Multidisciplinary Research for Advanced Materials in Tohoku University with Prof. Tadao Sugimoto, then Prof. Atsushi Muramatsu as a research associate during 2002-2008 and is currently associate professor. His current research interest includes the development of liquid-phase synthetic methods of functional inorganic nanoparticles preciously controlled in size and shape. He also focus on design and synthesis of functional organic materials with self-organizing and stimuli-responsive abilities. By the hybridization of he established precious synthetic chemistry in fields both of inorganic and organic functional materials, he is creating novel-type of hybrid materials with synergistic function both of inorganic and organic matters.
